First Painting I did when we arrived in North Carolina.
Karen and I met up with Scott Burdick and
some friends to paint these falls.

"Old Salem Steeple"

The next day it rained. Karen, our friend Andre Lucero,
and I set out to Old Salem to find a spot to paint.
We found a spot under some trees that kept us relatively
dry. I was happy with how this painting turned out, but
it was certainly the toughest to complete. With water droplets
falling on my pallet and my hands getting
numb from the air getting colder it was quite the challenge.
Karen and Andre wised up and decided to wait for me in the
dry and warm car.

The same day we painted at Scott
Burdick's and painted from the model. Scott had some great
tips on how important squinting down is, in order to see
relationships and how it prevents
you from focusing your eye on
one area to long.

The next morning me and Andre painted
out in the fog.
It was exciting to try something different.

On Thursday, we went to a farm where
the owner does low impact logging with Draft Horses.
His family lives with no running water and no electricity.
It was real interesting to meet someone
that is willing to live this way.

There was so much great work in the show. I was really impressed
and honored to be a part of it.

and it was a real honor that he purchased the painting of
Karen.

Andre Lucero next to his display
of work. Me and Andre's Hotel rooms were near each other,
so we got up at 5am
everyday to paint. We had a lot of fun painting together.

when I got back from the trip. Everytime I do a Plein Air
Event, it makes
me eager to get outside again
