Germanton Plein Air Painting Show 2006

On the way to the Germanton Show Karen and I stayed in the Smoky Mountains
for a few days to explore and to paint. I've never been there before and it was beautiful.

Cloud cover was moving in over the smokies. You can see a sliver of light as the sun sets on the horizon.
Before we decided to turn around we started driving up into these clouds!

Above left is at about 6,000 feet around Clingman's Dome. It was so high that the tops of the trees were frosted from the night before. It was actually warm when we were up there. On the Right is Mingul Falls which is the tallest falls we came across in the park.

A picture I got of some of the parks wildlife. I didn't know bears look so much like me.

Painted in the morning as the sun rose over the Smokies.
This is one of the 5 paintings in the show.

Then we headed over to Germanton. I met up with Scott Burdick and a group of painters, and painted
the painting on the upper left. The one on the right is done strictly with the palette knife. It was
really cool to see the spots that Scott has made paintings from.

The next day we met up at Scott's place and painted a live model, Courtney.
From left to Right is Dan Schultz, Scott Burdick behind the tree, and Bernie Martin.

Left to Right is Louis Escobedo hiding behind Andre Lucermo, Scott Boyle, and Guido Petruzzi.

And Brett Weaver Painting

Then me under the tree branch. This painting was in the show. However, I wish this photo turned out better.

Some Miniatures I made from a spot the group of us painted at. Average size for these is 4" by 5".

The gang painting at the quick paint. Scott was kind to provide a model for us to paint.

The study I made during the quick paint.

On the last day we camped at Hanging Rock Park. This is another Mini I made. It was a great time of the year to paint in North Carolina. The trees were budding creating almost fall like colors. The Show was
a lot of fun. I met a lot of great people and made some friends. I got some great tips on painting
from Scott and other artists in the show.

Thought I'd end the update with a photo of one of those unusual theme Motels you'll see around the Smokies.
