Step 3 & 4
Generally, I like to start a painting
by laying in my lightest light and my darkest dark. The
light color looks blue but it is actually a pure gray. Placing
grays over a warm colored canvas will appear very cool or
bluish. I keep a tube of medium gray handy for that type
of effect.
I start painting the face by blocking
in some darks.
